Getting Started
Here is a step-by-step guide to the SLU English Department's internship program:
- Read the English Department's guidelines and requirements for internships that can be used to earn course credit.
- Determine whether you're eligible before applying.
- Find an internship opportunity. (Be sure to check out Handshake for opportunities.)
- Apply. Get accepted.
- Set up a pre-internship meeting with the Internship Coordinator, Dr. Paul Lynch.
- Go to Handshake to complete the Student Learning Contract and the Acknowledgement of Risk and Release form with your site supervisor and faculty sponsor. (In the case of Internships for SLU English Majors, the faculty sponsor will usually be the Internship Coordinator.)
- Once you've been notified that your forms have been verified, register for ENGL 4910.
- Do your internship. Work hard. Have fun. Learn lots. Make a good impression. Keep a robust record of activity. (And check in with the Internship Coordinator now and again.)
- Complete the final paper (project).
- Fill out the Intern Survey and send it to the Internship Coordinator.
- Ask your sponsor to fill out and send the Internship Performance Evaluation.
- Contact the Internship Coordinator to set up a post-internship meeting and submit your final paper/project.
